Senior Associate - Tax

Sladen Legal is looking for an experienced tax lawyer to join our highly regarded Federal Tax team in Melbourne.

This is an opportunity for a Senior Associate-level lawyer who enjoys technically challenging tax work, direct client engagement and advising businesses, private groups, family offices, high-net-worth individuals and their advisers.

The role

You will work closely with senior members of our tax team across a broad range of complex Federal tax matters, including:

• income tax and capital gains tax advisory;

• business and investment structuring and restructuring;

• taxation of trusts, companies and privately held groups;

• tax aspects of significant transactions, reorganisations and succession arrangements;

• private wealth and intergenerational structuring;

• tax risk management and strategic advice;

• ATO engagement, including private rulings, reviews, audits and disputes; and

• emerging and complex Federal tax issues affecting businesses, investors and private clients.

The work is varied and technically demanding. Matters range from transactional and structuring advice through to complex trust and private group issues, tax controversy and strategic advice on significant commercial and family transactions.

The role offers significant opportunity to take ownership of matters, work directly with clients and their accounting and financial advisers, contribute to technical thought leadership and play an active role in the continued development of our tax practice.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

• 5+ years’ post-admission experience, ideally around 5–8 years, with substantial experience in Federal taxation law;

• strong technical and analytical skills;

• experience advising on complex tax matters for businesses, private groups, investors or high-net-worth clients;

• excellent drafting and communication skills;

• confidence dealing directly with clients and other professional advisers;

• the ability to manage matters with a high degree of autonomy while working collaboratively within a specialist team; and

• a genuine interest in developing deep technical expertise in taxation law.

Experience across areas such as tax structuring, trusts, corporate tax, transactions, private wealth or tax controversy will be highly regarded.
