Kaitilin is a Principal Lawyer in the Business Law team and a specialist tax lawyer focused on complex, high-stakes disputes involving the ATO.
She acts for high-net-worth individuals, private groups, family offices, and corporates in tax disputes, as well as advising on tax risk in transactions. She is also frequently engaged where tax becomes a critical issue in shareholder disputes, family law disputes, M&A-related claims, and complex group-level disputes.
Kaitilin’s practice is distinguished by the ability to combine deep technical tax expertise with a disputes mindset, focusing on evidence, strategy, and outcomes from the outset.
Her experience spans all stages of ATO engagement, including:
reviews and audits;
negotiation and settlement;
objections; and
Part IVC litigation in the Tribunal, Federal Court, and High Court of Australia.
Her strategic acumen and technical prowess allow her to offer commercially driven advice that empowers clients to make informed decisions.
Kaitilin’s practice spans various aspects of tax law, with notable expertise in income (and capital gains) tax, including:
taxation of trusts and funds advice;
Division 7A;
international taxation (including CFCs, transferor trusts, thin capitalisation (and DDCR) and transfer pricing, s 99B and s 47B);
deceased estates, succession planning and family group restructuring;
residency; and
family trust elections.
Kaitilin also has significant experience in matters involving client legal privilege, freedom of information requests, ATO recovery and collection processes, and voluntary disclosures.
