Contractor Driver Minimum Rates Order – Stayed by Federal Court

The Federal Court of Australia has granted a last minute application by the National Road Transport Association to stay the Contractor Driver Minimum Payments Road Safety Remuneration Order 2016 (Order) for an unspecified period of time.
The controversial Order was due to commence today, 4 April 2016.
The Order, amongst other things, prescribed minimum pay rates for contractor drivers involved in the transport of goods destined for sale or hire by a supermarket chain or long distance operations.
The Federal Court’s decision comes after previous applications made to have the Order stayed or varied by the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal had failed.
